David Lee received bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology, and Administration and Policy from Trent University in Ontario, Canada, and Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Anthropology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He has worked in the Maya region for more than 15 years, first in Belize under the direction and mentorship of Dr. Jaime Awe, before shifting his research focus to the site of El Perú-Waka’, under the direction of Dr. David Freidel.


From 2001-2004, David served as the principal planning consultant to the Belize Government Inter-American Development Bank Tourism Development Project, building a longrange strategic plan for the development and conservation of Belize’s archaeological resources. David lives in Dallas with his wife, Sarah Sage.
